Numbers 13:30-31

The key to courage

Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.”

But the men who had gone up with him said, “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.”

Numbers 13:30-31

What was the difference between Caleb and the rest of the spies?

It certainly wasn’t the circumstances. They’d all been in the wilderness. They’d all experienced hunger and thirst. And they all went together to explore the unknown land of Canaan.

But Caleb looked at the unknown having stored up what God had already made known.

Caleb had been delivered, led, fed, watered, and guided. He remembered what God had said about this Promised Land, so he was ready to take possession sight unseen. Nevertheless, the trip into the Promised Land was for Caleb a continuation of what he’d already come to know of God in the wilderness.

While others looked to avoid giants, Caleb had been attentive to God’s ongoing goodness - and it made all the difference.

It still makes all the difference today.
