Numbers 13:1-2

An eye-adjusting exercise for getting eyes on God's goodness

The Lord said to Moses, “Send some men to explore the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites.”

Numbers 13:1-2

Has God ever failed to vindicate his good gifts?

The invitation to explore the land God was giving is useful for the Christ follower as they examine life with Jesus. What is the land like? How is the soil? Are there people and towns? What does it look like to live in this land?

We’ve made a decision for Christ, but have we let him adjust our eyes to see his promises?

It’s easy to let Jesus lead us from the place of bondage, but it does the soul good to ponder and explore his promise.

In doing so, we get eyes on God’s goodness. The imagery of Numbers 13 is appropriate: milk, honey, and fruit. It’s fruit so big that two people had to carry it on a stick between them. The literal fruit of the Promised Land - with all its size, density, flavor, texture - is now the spiritual fruit of life in the Spirit.

Those who explore that promise discover the Psalmist was on to something: “Taste and see that the Lord is good.”
