Matthew 16:7-9

Learning to look for grace's leftovers

They discussed this among themselves and said, “It is because we didn’t bring any bread.”

Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked, “You of little faith, why are you talking among yourselves about having no bread? Do you still not understand? Don’t you remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered?

Matthew 16:7-9

How prone we are to forget the abundance of grace!

We no sooner leave church on Sunday and naturally begin revolving around ourselves again. Like the disciples, we look at everything in life as cause and effect of our own doing. Jesus’ warning is twofold: 1) beware the yeast of teaching that takes our eyes off our Savior, and 2) remember.

Remember to gather the fragments of his provision during the day:

  • Fragments of time together

  • Fragments of opportunities to serve

  • Fragments of answered prayer, repentance, and worship

Look around a bit today, and you’ll find grace leaves leftovers.
