Exodus 20:20

God's help for how you deal with others

Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning.”

Exodus 20:20

If you ever think God sits far-off and unconcerned with human issues, read Exodus 20 again.

Two chapters prior, Moses was creating loads of work for himself presiding over peoples’ disputes. His father-in-law Jethro suggested some delegation. But God was bringing greater help. One provision of the ten commandments is God’s getting to the root of human dispute.

Just pay attention to the order.

Worship of God first, relationship with neighbor next. The first four commandments inform the following six. Faithful worship of God begets proper love of neighbor.

Dispute settled (maybe even avoided).
