3 Short Verses, Long-lasting Nourishment

Proof that God does a lot with a little

I'm regularly reminded that while we make our plans, the Lord really does direct our steps.

While I had something else planned to send out this week, I've been captivated by Psalm 131, and couldn't help but share:

O Lord , my heart is not lifted up; my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me.

But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me.

O Israel, hope in the Lord from this time forth and forevermore.

Psalm 131:1-3 (ESV Translation)

Some weeks, the idea of sending out an email tends to introduce a sense of meeting a minimum word count, arbitrary deadline, and numerous other tasks.

I imagine I'm not alone in the self-imposed standards that come with the things on the radar, and the sense of someone or something prodding us along. Often, that person is ourselves or those around us. They can be harsh taskmasters, with short deadlines. And the culture and age we live in doesn't help matters.

This is why I invite you to this Psalm today.

Look beyond you. Look beyond other people. Pause and consider your Creator, and imagine the way in which He looks upon you.

While I could extrapolate on what Psalm 131 means to me, I rest in the assurance that the God who provides this Psalm stands ready to generously illuminate its riches to you as He has with me.

Praying your soul lightens as you sit with Psalm 131 today,

Nathan
