1 Peter 5:7

A framework for casting cares upon God

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

1 Peter 5:7

Here’s a three-part framework for casting cares and anxieties upon God:

Past offenses and shortcomings - He already knows about those and loves us anyway.

Present situations and circumstances - His view beyond our perspective means he has wisdom for those who ask.

Future hopes, dreams, plans, and outcomes - God is not dependent on our results for his outcomes, but rather will bring his outcomes regardless of ours.

There are other ways to think about what weighs on us, but the operative word here is cast.

The Greek word for cast - epiriptō - implies that we throw our cares upon God. Too often we merely lay these cares, keeping them close enough that we continue gripping them to some degree. To live under God’s authority is to heave our cares, trusting He is mighty to handle them.

Heavenly Father - Assure us we can cast our cares into the great ocean of your mercy, rather than merely dropping them in the boat we’re traveling in - only to risk still carrying them.
